Classes

Graded Ballet

Ballet is the foundation for all styles of dance and at The Just Ballet School we focus the study of Ballet. Ballet classes help to improve posture, balance and co-ordination as well as building physical strength and classical technique. It also helps with self discipline, poise and grace, as well as building self confidence. Our teachers are passionate and our students love coming to class, not only for the chance to learn a new skill, but also to make new friends in an inclusive and welcoming environment.

At The Just Ballet School our teaching staff are highly qualified and bring years of experience to each class. We offer the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus, an internationally recognised portfolio of examinations and assessments designed to encourage, motivate and reward students of all ages and abilities, outlining a progressive structure for learning and achievement in dance.

These structured classes help to develop students’ physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression and musicality using a range of movements and musical styles.

Royal Academy of Dance Examinations are offered to students who are the correct age, prepared and ready after four terms. For children who do not wish to take or who are not suitable for a formal RAD exam, will be offered the option to take a less formal school exam. All examinations are optional.

Students will work through the RAD system which consists of three dance disciplines: Ballet, the foundation and the most important part of the syllabus. Free Movement, influenced by and incorporating movements in common with other dance styles such as Natural Movement, Contemporary and Classical Greek Dance. Character, the theatrical presentation of national dance using original ethnic dance and music which has been freely adapted for the theatre.

Vocational Ballet

The RAD Vocational syllabus provides an in-depth study of ballet, developing students technique, musicality and performance skills. The vocational route is only offered to students who possess both the physical facility and ability to cope with the demands placed on the body during this intensive classical training, which includes pointe work. Vocational classes are taught alongside children's regular grade ballet class. As they progress in this syllabus, children will be encouraged to take two vocational classes each week.

Dancers must show a natural ability and have a lot of potential with this subject as well as dedication and commitment. This highly-focused and practical training prepares students for a dance, or dance-related, career.

The vocational classes are invite only.

Whether beginners or those returning to dance after a hiatus, participants benefit from the esteemed RAD curriculum, renowned for its comprehensive approach to ballet training.

These classes typically focus on developing strength, flexibility, technique, and artistry, while also fostering a deep appreciation for classical ballet. With an emphasis on proper alignment, musicality, and movement quality, adult learners are guided through a progressive series of exercises and choreography, tailored to their level of experience. Beyond the physical benefits, RAD-based adult ballet classes provide a fulfilling outlet for creativity, self-expression, and personal growth, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among participants as they embark on their ballet journey together.

Lyrical Team

Lyrical dance is all about expressing emotion through organic movements and unrestricted lines. Incorporating elements of Jazz, Ballet and Modern dance, lyrical is an exciting fusion which allows students to work through powerful and emotional routines. Lyrical Dance is an expressive style of dance that lends itself to theatrical performance.

The style encourages dancers to make connections between mind and body working to build awareness of the space around the body and, in particular, the sensations within. Dancers are encouraged to explore how to use the body in different ways using improvisation, preparing them for the for working outside the specific practices to create new and exciting movement language.

Dancers who attend our lyrical classes form our performance team and dance publically at various events throughout the year. Children in this group benefit from working with dancers outside of their usual ballet classes and of a wider age range. These classes and the performance opportunities develop our dancers confidence with performing and picking up choreography as well as improving their strength, co-ordination, quality and flexibility.

Pop/Conditioning

This class aims to consolidate dancers’ technique in order to bring out the true artist in every student. Offered in addition to regular classes, students will develop a deeper understanding of the mechanics of the classical vocabulary and how to flourish it with artistry. By working on their strength, musicality, flexibility and coordination Tara aims to improve self confidence and awareness in the dancers.
